Rosemary is the main protagonist of the High Guardian Spice animated series. Born and raised in the small town Pebble, Rose is the daughter of legendary Guardian, Lavender, who went missing four years prior to the series' beginning. Before her mother's departure, she is given Flowering Thorn, a sword that is passed on from generation to generation.
At the age of 14[1], to become a Guardian herself, Rosemary heads off to High Guardian Academy with her best friend Sage. She takes part in the Warrior classes, and would later decide to sharpen her sword-fighting skills during the Everything Hours.
Forming a group of four during the series, Rosemary becomes part of a larger conflict with the Triumvirate when they incidentally figure out some of their secrets.
Design
Animated series
Rosemary is an adolescent human white short-sleeved shirt with a brown vest worn over her shirt held together with a strap on her waist. On her shoulders, she has dark brown shoulder pads and on her hands, she wears fingerless gloves that are the same color as her shoulder pads. Notably she has on a pink bowtie she is often seen wearing even in her school uniform. Below her vest, she has a large taffeta skirt that consisting of light pink and dark pink stripes. She wears white stockings and dark brown boots with the collar and tips of the boots being a lighter brown. Rosemary's hair is a bright reddish pink and most often she has her hair tied into pigtails being large and poofy in appearance.
During the festival, Rosemary wears a light green dragon onesie. The onesie is green and has a lighter green belly. The hood possesses light yellow eyes and tan curved horns. The back of the onesie possesses tiny pink wings and a spiked tail. The shoes she wears in this outfit are red with the tip and bottom of the shoes being white. Rosemary has her hair tied into a ponytail in this outfit
Webcomic
In the webcomic, Rosemary appeared slightly different compared to how she looked in the show. Apart from having paler skin and a lighter hair color, she also was depicted with visible bows that hold her pigtails while in the show, she has no visible bows or hair ties that hold her pigtails.
Rosemary's webcomic design bears some similarities to Madoka Kaname, the main protagonist of Madoka Magica.
Personality
Rosemary is a cheerful, easily excitable, and friendly individual with an unending hunger for adventure and food. She acts as the foil to Sage, and will often be the one to remind her to have fun and to relax. She is known to be a fierce ally who’ll do anything to help her friends and won’t hesitate to jump into danger for the greater good. She has also shown that she doesn’t like people worrying about her when she tried to hide a near-fatal wound from her friends.
Despite her well-meaning behavior, she does tend to be reckless such as when she almost hurt Thyme while swinging a sword in a crowded marketplace or when she broke Flowering Thorn after losing her grip. Breaking the sword also showed just how much she idolizes her mother, Lavender. While Rosemary was upset over the damages she caused to the sword, she treated the scratch marks that her mother left behind on it to be gifts.
Rosemary is also known the be stubborn at times with a tendency to act on her own. Such as when she ignores the plans that Sage made during the Autumn Processional and then when she runs off to fight Olive alone despite Sage’s warning.
Additionally, her reckless attitude and preferences for physical activity over academics, have gained her the reputation of not being the brightest of the four main girls. On occasion, she’ll demonstrate knowledge in topics that interest her, like when she bragged about knowledge over a crest because of its relation to dragons. Other times, however, she’ll do the opposite, where despite being obsessed with dragons, she would point at a taxidermy dragon and asked what it was. However, the village of Pebble is said to be a small town, with its citizens not having a lot of exposure to the outside world and Rosemary is no exception. This is made clear when she asks Professor Caraway what transgender meant. It’s possible that other parts of Rosemary’s naïveté and lack of knowledge can also be contributed to her lack of travel.
Traits and Abilities
- Swordsmanship - Due to practicing with Flowering Thorn both before and after leaving her hometown, Pebble, Rosemary has become increasingly adept and handling her sword, and is shown to handle her own in combat.
- Physical Endurance - Rosemary is implied to be somewhat physically resilient, being able to pursue and fight Olive even after sustaining bodily damage in Episode 9, and do the same with Mandrake in Episode 12. The only time she ever collapses in due to blood loss in Episode 7, after being wounded in the Cave of Vinca.

Trivia
- Name origin: Comes from the Salvia Rosmarinus / Rosemary. Like with Sage, Parsley, and Thyme, her name was chosen based on the line "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme" from the traditional English ballad Scarborough FairW.
- The real-life herbs Rosemary and Lavender both stem from the LamiaceaeW family of plants.
- Rosemary's sexuality may possibly be bisexual - she has been attracted to men, such as Aster, but also implies she has some affection for Sage.
- Raye Rodriguez calls this ship "SageMary".
- Rosemary, the herb, is closely related to the herb Sage- which is a bit funny when you see how close the two are in the show.[2]
